Subclass 457 Temporary Work Skilled Visa
The subclass 457 Temporary Work Skilled Visa is a visa which allows Australian employers to bring overseas skilled workers and their families to Australia on a temporary basis to live and work.
If the 457 visa holder’s occupation is on the Medium and Long Term Skills Shortage List (MLTSSL) the visa is granted for four years and the holder can transition to a subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) permanent residence visa.
If the 457 Visa holder’s occupation is on the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) the visa is granted for two years and can be renewed for a further two years. There is no pathway to permanent residence.
The subclass 457 Temporary Work Skilled visa is being phased out and will be replaced by the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa in March 2018.
