Visa processing times are disrupted!
I think we already realised this one! Visa processing times are crazy at the moment.
The DHA updated its processing times on 20 May 2020 – you can find them here. Some of the times are eye wateringly long.
Don’t hassle the Department.
They have your entire future (and often your whole piggy bank too) in their hands, but your update requests will be ignored.
“We don’t provide updates on applications. We will be in contact you (sic) if we need additional information. Wait for us to contact you.”
Some services are unavailable, and extension of time to provide responses to requests for information, affected by the delays will be automatically provided without request.
These include:
- Overseas visa medical appointments
- Australian medical appointments with BUPA
- English language testing
- Biometrics collection
Subclass 489 visa holders – work and residence requirements
The DHA states that they cannot assist such visa holders further at this time (which means that we are unsure whether they will relax the work and residence requirements applicable to these visa holders before they can apply for permanent residence).
We will keep you posted as soon as we have further information about this, But we recommend that you should try and seek a compassionate or compelling reason to travel to Australia. Please see the DHA request form and information here.
Subclass 887 visa applicants
The DHA states that they are assessing 887 visa applications that were submitted prior to November 2019. We suggest that if you have restrictions with respect to work on your current Bridging Visa, you should seek a waiver of the work restriction condition.
If you are unable to sit an English test to provide that you have Functional English (or cannot prove this in other acceptable ways), you may be liable for the second instalment visa application charge.
