The minimum English language test scores for the Skilled – Recognised Graduate (subclass 476) and Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visas were lowered on 18 April 2015.
The following table shows the scores required for either of these visas:-

From 18 April you must provide evidence of having achieved one of the following (lower) scores:-
- an overall score of at least 6, with at least 5 in each of the four test components of the IELTS test.
- a score of at least ‘B’ in each of the four test components of an Occupational English Test (OET).
- a total score of at least 64, with a minimum of 4 for listening, 4 for reading, 14 for writing and 14 for speaking, in a Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test (TOEFL iBT)
- a score of at least 50 with a minimum of 36 in each of the four test components Pearson Test of English Academic
- a score of at least 169 with a minimum of 154 in each of the four test componentsin a Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test taken not before 1 January 2015.
The concessions mean that the ‘competent English’ requirement is no longer relevant for Subclass 476 and 485 visas.
Please note that you will continue to meet the English requirement if you hold a passport from the UK, the US, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland which means that you are exempt from the English language requirements above.
English language test are valid for 3 years immediately before your application date and the CAE test may only be taken after 1 January 2015.
