Be happy all of you out there dreaming of settling in fabulous NSW on a Subclass 190 visa, but up 'til now were thoroughly cheesed off with the whole NSW nomination lottery. Just as you thought you must again battle with thousands of others send your application in on a particular date and time to the NSW magic nomination computers before they crashed (usually after a matter of minutes, but lets not exaggerate) – brace yourselves! NSW it seems has changed the application process for the better!!
What does this mean?
As of the beginning of February (i.e. now), NSW has changed to a selection based invitation process for state nominations for the Subclass 190 visa.
In a nutshell, you may now only apply for NSW Nomination once you have been selected by NSW Trade & Investment from the Expressions of Interest that you have lodged through SkillSelect, and where you have indicated that you want to be nominated for NSW nomination on the EOI. NSW Trade & Investment will be selecting and inviting candidates to apply between February and June 2015 (who knows what happens after June).
In other words NSW Trade and Investment will cherry pick the best candidates based on their points scores and the selection process will be competitive. NSW will determine how many invitations are sent out and those ranked highest will be the first to be invited. You will be ranked according to NSW's "core" criteria which are:-
- your DIBP points score
- your English ability and,
- your skilled employment.
If you score the same on the core criteria at time of selection as others, the applications will be further ranked based on the date and time that the EOI was submitted in SkillSelect.
According to NSW Trade and Investment, the following are the "key steps" for applicants:-
- Make sure that you meet 190 visa criteria, including having an occupation on the NSW Occupation List* – and a positive skills assessment in that occupation.
- Submit an EOI in SkillSelect choosing NSW for 190 nomination.
- If you are invited to apply for NSW nomination you will receive an invitation by email and you will have 14 days to apply for nomination. NSW nomination applications take approximately 12 weeks to process.
- If nominated, you will receive a SkillSelect invitation to apply for the 190 visa from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).
- Then you apply for the 190 visa to DIBP within 60 days of being nominated by NSW.
- Obviously DIBP will advise you of the decision on your visa application.
- If your visa is granted, you will move to fabulous NSW and commence your two year commitment to live and work there. Happy days!
* The NSW Occupation List will be released sometime this week.
