Working Holiday Makers – Minister has released a factsheet.

Further to my earlier blog post with respect to the upcoming changes to the Working Holiday (and Work & Holiday) visa scheme, the Minister has just released a fact sheet outlining all the changes in more detail.

Many of our readers and Facebook followers were worried about the increased tax rate on withdrawn superannuation contributions (once a working holiday maker’s visa has expired and they leave Australia, there is a process in place to claim back superannuation). Superannuation withdrawals by Working Holiday Makers will be taxed at the rate of a whopping 95% from 1 July 2017. The concern amongst our readers was that super accrued whilst working on other temporary visas (such as Subclass 457, Student visas etc may also be taxed at this extortionate rate, however you will note from the fact sheet that the Minister specifically includes only Working Holiday and Work & Holiday visas.
