Navigating the Wait: Understanding Delays in Partner Visa Bridging Visa Grants

09 May

The Department of Home Affairs is currently experiencing significant delays in the processing of bridging visas associated with partner visa applications. Many applicants are facing wait times of several weeks, leading to concerns as some individuals have become unlawful before their bridging visas are issued.

The Department has acknowledged the issue, attributing the delays to a recent surge in the volume of bridging visa requests. They are actively working to address these processing times and anticipate improvements in the coming weeks.

In a statement, the Department clarified that applications are processed in chronological order, with urgent requests being monitored. However, the high volume of applications means that not all cases can be resolved prior to the expiration of a client’s current visa.

Importantly, the Department reassured applicants that even if they become unlawful during this waiting period, their eligibility for a bridging visa will be assessed based on their status at the time of application lodgment. This means that once processing is complete, applicants will still receive the appropriate bridging visa, providing some relief amidst the delays.
